Ask a silly question?

Is it possible to record an electric/acoustic guitar by some kind of direct input into a PC. If so what kind of hardware/software would I need?

(please do not tell me I am silly for asking this, I am blissful in my technical ignorance)

Youll need a soundcard, which your computer probably has and if you want a useful sound, some sort of preamp, effects box, direct box....anything to boost your signal ...then plug into the line input of the soundcard....of course some type of software would help...check out N-Track at www.fasoft.com ....
