Can someone please tell me what ASIO means? What does it stand for and what are the implcations of a device supporting it or not.

Thanks

I think it stands for Audio Stream Input Output. It's a tech developed by Steinberg (I think)to reduce latency and system load when using programs such as Cubase VST. Other manufacturers also support ASIO these days, Logic Audio for one. It is a good thing to have, latency is always a concern. However, newer verions of programs such as Calkwalk 9.0 do some other type of tweaking to get latency down quite well.

If you can get a card that supports, it is worth it. (most do).

Round here, ASIO is the Australian Security and Intelligence Organisation. Kind of like the CIA only...smaller, with less money, power, people and things to do/protect. Call it the poor mans CIA.

Given the Echelon project (the global communications monitoring partnership b/w the US, UK Australia and a couple of others (NZ? that monitors email, websites, mobile communications etc.)), this post has probably been picked up and stored.

Just to make it more interesting for the people who decipher possible terrorist activity on the net, I'll throw in some other keywords to make this post get flagged a higher priority:

bomb
assasination
president
nuclear
July 4
target

That was fun.

PS. To answer your question properly, have a look at http://www.whatis.com/asio.htm

Should explain it all

Or you could go to www.asio.gov.au for the "real" ASIO - actually, don't go there- there server doesn't exist (but it did - spooky - google has a cached version)
