Anyone else have problems with the new ASIO drivers?

ASIO for my soundcards works great NEAR 0 latency but in cakewalk they work awful.

Nope... What's your sound card anyway

Cakewalk didn't support ASIO. SONAR 2.2XL does...:)

I have Sonar 2.2 and an Event EZbus.

ASIO appears on the list of driver types (along with wdm and MME) but if I select it I get nowhere.

All of the Cakewalk info regarding ASIO mentions DigiDesign hardware specifically, hmmm. The general buzz seems to be that if hardware has both drivers available, the ASIO drivers are "better" (more stable, lower latency) than the WDM or MME drivers for the same.

The ASIO support isn't only for Digidesign hardware, it's for everything that uses ASIO-drivers (some exceptions of course ;)) I've had no problem with my Inca88. :)

And James, Cakewalk (the company) supports ASIO by implementing it in their programs (Sonar and Project5). :D

I use the work Cakewalk in the loosest sense, I mean Sonar XL 2.2.

I use Sound Blaster Audigy Pro Platinum.

I haven't tested the Audigys ASIO-drivers with Sonar 2.2 myself, but I hear they work great.

What other software have you tried with ASIO-drivers?

Well I only use Sonar so I havent tried any other software other then the effects that come with the Audigy and those are near 0 latency!

Oh, you compare it to the onboard effects on the Audigy.
Well.... don't. ;)

As they are onboard effects, there is no latency (as you've discovered). The hardware takes care of them, but they arent' really useable. You can't control them from Sonar. And... they are not very good (IMHO). :)

Agreed. I didnt realize they were hardware effects tho. :(

If Creative had made DirectX application to let you apply them in Sonar (and other programs), I would consider putting my old Audigy back into my computer... ;)

Yes I was rather dissapointed in it and thats before I even get into the driver compatability issues.

That's why my slogan is: "Get a new soundcard!" :D

Depends on what you do.

Do you need 24bit/96kHz?
Do you need more than 2 inputs or 2 outputs?
Do you need WDM/ASIO/GSIF-drivers?
Do you need a breakout box?

I dont 'really' need 24bit bu t would be nice.

And I need quite a few inputs....at least 2. Mebbie 4.

ASIO drivers would be best.

I have no idea what a breakout box is
