I recently purchased KRK RP-8 powered monitors and love them. For the rock and country stuff I do the low end is sufficient, translating beautifully to other systems. However, I've noticed that my mixes don't translate well in the wife's 4Runner...she's running a 10" sub and listens to a lot of rap and R & B. And though I personally don't like the music, I'm also going to be working with some rap and R & B groups down the road. I've done my homework over the years in regard to monitors etc. but I've never even considered a subwoofer until now. My plan is to mix with the KRK's, and then only use the subwoofer to check the 20hz-50hz range to see what's rumbling (or not) down there.
The KRK RP-10S looks like a good match with my RP-8's obviously, as well as the M-Audio SBX.

Any other recommendations for a decent sub in the $150-$300 range? Would a simple home theater sub be adequate for just checking the rumbles? FYI, I have treated my room failry well with bass traps and like. Thanks gang
