Hi, I'm a total newbie so please bear with me if the answer is obvious

I recently bought an ART USB Dual Pre 2 as my main mixer/audio interface. I plan to use it to record some acoustic guitar with my cheapo Behringer C2s. However, the output signal is VERY weak. I had Phantom power on, the front gain to max and the mixer output level to max and I could barely hear anything. The mics sound fine on my Behringer 702 board. Also, when I use the pickup from my guitar, the ART is nice and loud

Do you think I bought a defective unit? I would like some input before returning this mixer. I really like it due to its small size. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

The 'Mix' control is set to 'Preamp' when recording and 'Computer' when playing back. Make sure the volume is up on Audacity as well.

Thanks, I tried what you suggests. When I monitor the input via the Headphone Monitor on the back, I have to keep the Level at 10, Input Gain over +40dB (!) in order to hear anything. When the music is playing, the Signal LCD hardly light up. Is this a normal thing?

I am not sure, but I'd be concerned. I have a good rapport with my music store, and I could say try another unit. But at home, you could try another mic just to see. However, if your guitar straight in works well, there is a problem with either the mics or the ART. I don't know how to figure it out without a lot of work. If you could try another C2, but how do two of them not work well? Try another ART, especially if you bought it recently.
The only other thing I can think of is how you are powering the ART. Is it a 9-volt battery? USB? An AC adapter? Try an AC adapter with much more current than what you are using now. The back says 7.5-12VDC at 150mA. Try 12VDC, especially if you have say a 9VDC adapter now, and 300mA, just to try 'something'.
