I have an E-mu 1820m, and I have the possibility to buy an Art Tube Pac

Would it be a good idea to use the Art and then hook it up with the 1820m, instead of using the standard pre's on the 1820m?

My mic is a SP B1 (for sung vocals I'm planning on some older/vintage (sounding) mics) and my stuff is soulful hiphop :)

Thnx

I've owned an Art TubePac for years and I really get alot of use out of it. Mainly for bass recording. I think its one of the best bass tools out there bar none. I have used it on vocals before and it was ok, but not great, for that. It works pretty good for electric guitar amps too. Its a very versatile piece, especially for the price you find them at on sale all the time. I like the compressor on it for a very colored warm sound, and you can overdrive the input and its not nasty sounding, just for an additional off the wall use.

allright, that's cool hard2hear... since I'm thinking of learning to play the bass, too :D

So what's up on the vocal front?

I mean...I've got raps and I've got singing (no, not me..lol)...
I'll most def. put singing through the ART...but what about the raps?
I want to warm things up, but still need them to be upfront...

Any ideas on that?

I've worked with the ART Pro/Pac for tracking about a dozen rap songs and for the most part it's pretty good. However when you start pushing the gain is when you start noticing some distortion in the high end. I only really noticed this when doing more laid back type vocals where I had to push the gain to get a decent level. For the most part I was ok though. But as far as bang for the buck its definitely a good little unit.

allright then! thanks man, that's some usefull comment right there.

I think I'll just go ahead and buy it then.

There's a chance you'll even keep it around as a Bass DI as you move up and buy better gear.
