Hello Everyone,

Just a quick question...

After doing some research through the archives here, I'm considering purchasing one of these ART Tube MP units to use mainly as a bass DI. I've noticed that Musician's Friend is selling the new OPL version for $59.99 and that 8th street is selling the older version for $74.95 and I'm just wondering if there is any real difference between the two models? Is one better than the other and if so why?

Thank you in advance,

Sicily

Get the new one. Maybe they have fixed quality control so they actually work as advertised now. ;)

I don't understand why the new version is cheaper than the old one either, but that's how it is. Verys strange. Except that the OPL has a built-in output limiter, they are supposed to be the same.

OK, thank you very much

That was pretty much what I figured...

Half the reason I'm even getting one is the inexpensive cost and I figure the OPL technology certainly can't hurt things.

Thanks for the reply,

Sicily

I just purchased on of the ART MP's with the OPL circuitry from Musician's Fiend, umm..., I mean "Musician's Friend," and I'm really glad I did for the following reasons:

1. When it arrives, take a look at the "customer appreciation" flier they'll throw in the box; ...on page B7, you'll find the same thing on sale for $49.99. Call them immediately and you'll be able to talk them into giving you the additional $10.00 off of the $59.99 you paid originally. For $49.99, the thing is a steal!!

2. The OPL circuitry really works nicely as a limiter on "dynamic" instruments such as bass, for slapping and popping and such.

3. The sound is really good for the price, as I have found out for recording bass guitar.

I may be one of the lucky ones, but my ART appears to work correctly and sounds really good, no QC issues for me. It doesn't sound like a $1,500.00 preamp, but for $50.00, why should it?

Hope this helps!

Nice!

Thanks for the heads up on the extra 10 bucks off...

I went ahead and ordered one from the Fiend, and like I said I'll be using it mostly for bass, so it sounds like I made the right choice.

I'll be crossing my fingers that I get a unit without any QC issues, I'm sure it'll be OK.

I apprciate the response!

No Prob....

Fiend has been good to me, unlike a lot of others in this forum, from what I've read. Just today they sent me a replacement item to replace one that had opened during shipping and (barely) seeped into the shipping container. They paid shipping and everything.

Good luck!
