What is up? I don’t get it!

The Homerecording.Comp CD has been available for over a month now, and I have received word that only about 15 copies have been sold to people outside of the artists/members that contributed songs to this CD. I can recall seeing at least 40 or 50 people in the past say that they wanted to buy a copy of this when it was released. There seems to be a disparity here eh? This BBS has over 10,000 "members", and there is at least 1000 that post at least once a month, and probably another 4000 or 5000 that "check in" to read or "lurk". This is dismal to think that out of at least 5000 people, only 15 of these CD's have been sold!!!

The idea behind the CD was to allow members to submit their work and let others hear it in a CD format as opposed to mp3. Slackmaster2k went farther and provided all the coding for a more “interactive” CD deal by providing info about the contributing members (info THEY supplied), and a copy of the very first thread each contributing member posted on the BBS. In addition, he provided copies of some of the most infamous threads this BBS has had. Some are funny, some are tragic, some are just plain weird! But in the end, it is a fascinating collection and insight into some of the minds of the earliest members on this BBS and makes for some good reading. Some of you newer guys might actually get some of the inside jokes!

Proceeds from the sales were to 1- offset production costs (that is already covered), 2 - to be donated to the website. David Fiedler (the owner of homerecording.com) had NOTHING to do with the decision of where the proceeds from this CD were to go! The contributing members made ALL decisions about what to do with the proceeds, and it was unanimous that they go to David to help offset the costs associated with running homerecording.com. This was openly discussed on the BBS. There is NO hidden agenda or back room thing going on here. All the contributing members to this compilation CD just wanted to help offset the cost's of running this site because they all felt that they gained so much from being a member of this site.

Did I mention that ALL initial productions costs of this compilation CD were covered by the contributing members? Can you believe that? That was all of these members gift to this website. They submit THEIR music and PAY to have CD’s produced for this website! That’s right, each contributing member had to commit to BUYING a CD with THEIR music on it!

What is your excuse for not buying one?

Now, I read about how all of you seem to think this BBS is “all da bomb”, so now is the time to put up or shutup! There are still a LOT of CD’s from the first printing for sale. You can get ordering information at this link: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=53733

Again, the proceeds from the sale of this compilation CD DIRECTLY BENEFIT THIS BBS, and thus YOU! Many of you log on here to get your questions answered about home recording. This site doesn’t run on a free server! It costs REAL MONEY to operate it, and the owner of this website has always shouldered the cost above what little he brings in from the banner ad’s to keep this site up and running for YOU! I know that the owner of the site had a fairly long period of unemployment that he just recently got out of, yet, he managed to find a way to keep this site up for YOU during a time when he was trying to figure out how to feed his family and all that! (yes, David has a couple of growing young men in his household)

BUY A FREAKIN’ COMP CD!!! It is the least many of you can do to “help out”!

Again, go to this link: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=53733
to order you copy RIGHT NOW. It is your way to hear some pretty decent examples of members work, as well as help support this BBS.

P.S. Yes, I know that I am spamming this, and spamming is a no-no here. But this is at least a spam for this BBS. I gain NOTHING from spending the time to compose this thread and post it in every forum.

Yeah because if it doesn't any of those two genres you will find it hard for members in this forum to support it.....

Someone might want to discuss creating Comp for this for that will benefit the Homerecording site....

Why the excuses about not buying one unless it has rap or whatever???

People get A LOT out of this site in terms of solid knowledge and helpful advice.... the least they can do is shell out $20 fuckin' bucks to support the damn place!!!

Crimony.......... in the site you've got the equivalent of MANY recording books worth of knowledge, PLUS some respectable pros on-board too..........!!!

If you don't buy a CD... think about that the next time you post a question that you expect to have answered by people here!

Geez, you have your own forum dedicated to RAP, Hip-Hop etc.

Whining about whether there is or isn't any of those styles of music on the compilation CD.

What about the people into classical, or C&W, ragtime, Jazz? I don't see them with their own forum.

Of course, no one is forcing you to buy the CD. Infact, with your attitudes and amazingly diverse tastes in music, I'd suggest the two of you.. don't.

OK, now we have dilemna Emeric.

If I buy a CD, and I don't listen to it: Yes I will have supported the forum but I will have removed the chance for someone else who likes this type of music and won't be able to purchase one just cause some stoopid ass hiphoper buyed one to please everyone?

I love you all,

P.S.: I'm actually thinking about doing the same thing but with rap and techno on it. Could be fun, I'm sure everyone in this forum would buy one... Profits would go to HR.com.

Good idea!

I guess we need to have compilations for each genre represented on the BBS. We should also have MP3 Mixing Clinic forums for each and every genre. That way, there will be less of a chance of having to hear something that we don't like. Sigh. The point of this compilation is that you KNOW most of the people on it, not that you're going to love all the music.

If you don't like the BBS and the people on it, then don't take part in the compilation project. It is not mandatory, regardless of how Ed's post might have made it sound :)

If you're disappointed that there's only one rap song on Volume One, then CONTRIBUTE some rap/hip hop to volume II! I get so many emails from people who say things like "i'd like to be on the compilation, but I like rap..." or "I play christian music...." It doesn't *matter* folks...what matters is that all of the tunes on the cd are home-recorded by the people around you, and that should be worth something.
