Are these mixes any good?

I'm new to all this, so I don't have any helpful advice, but it sounds awesome to me! No complaints here.

Out of curiosity, are all the instruments software/sample based instruments? Or did you record those parts yourself?

Thanks!!
The drums are ezdrummer (played by me on a set of roland td3 v-drums), The bass is a real bass (yamaha, played by me), the piano is synthogy "ivory" (also played by me on a yamaha clavinova), electric guitar is real, Gibson epiphone (played by me) but I put it through Guitar rig 2, the nylon guitar (me again) is a real spanish "Raimundo" classical guitar, the voice is mine and so are the voices singing the harmony parts and enything els is Sampletank2!

Great mix, great songs. I hope you do well, you should...
I'm hearing a cross between Mika/Coldplay
Really great stuff
I sent you a Myspace add...cheers!!

sounds great man, real hooky... sent you an add- good luck

What's your recording chain...I'd love to get your specs on what you're using...

Loving the tunes

Loving the tunes and your mix sounds good to me. You have a unique sound..keep making good music.

Great tunes! Real nice harmonies (vocal and chordal) and writing. Well done. And nice mixes too. Do you listen to Ben Folds?

Noting special; stanerd pc (gig of ram, 2 gig processor), a rode condenser mic, the plugins that I've already mentioned and cubase sx. But what I think makes the difference is the Mackie onyx 400f, because of the pre-amps and the analog to digital conversion!

Ok, I've been recording these tracks in my bedroom so I was just wondering if anyone would like to give their opinion on the mixes of these songs because I would like to know what I'm doing wrong or what I could do to make things better?

Vocals sound nice to me.
There is alot of room in the OHs.

This mix could benifit from close mics on the kick snare and toms.
Sounds like you maybe only used OHs.

The piano is nice.
The overall tone of the mix is a bit lacking in the low mids (warmth) and the low end.

Far From Home

The low mids on this are better although the piano sounds real nice there is maybe a bit much room ambience.

Vocal Harmony Scat
Great song and singing!

The vocals are all a bit thin, since its all vocals you want the vocals to have nice thick warm low mids.
Try cutting less of the lows, and even maybe boost some of the lows/low mids. But firstly just cut less lows to see how much warmth that adds to the mix.

These are a good effort by the way.

Thanks!

I suppose some of the problem that I've had with the bottom end of things is that I'm useing a pair of absolute 2 monitors and the room that i'm working in is small and full of corners!!! So I think I tend to turn the bass down on things too much. I checked the mixes on headphones but again, they aren't very good ones (aiwa stereo dynamic headphones HPX-121).
I think I need to invest in some better monitors and get some bass traps!!

Simply amazing! If I could think out arangements like these I would never leave the studio. Simply amazing!

Buen trabajo, mi amigo! And if you didn´t quantize that drums, you´re a hell of a drummer! :)

Sounds fantastic. I actually really like the OH/Roomy sound on Wompychew.. though the drums definitely have too much of an ezdrummer sound for my liking. (Not a fan of programmed drums). Been a while since I've heard good powerpop like this. Who are your influences? You definitely have a talent for vocal arrangement :)

Hola Jayme,
Pues me gustaron mucho las canciones! The mixes sound good, although the compression at myspace makes everythings sound grainy (sort of like audio pixeling if you know what I mean). I just have to agree that they sound like they lack a little bottom end and maybe you could look into some mastering plugins like the Izotope Ozone or T-Racks... they'll set you back a couple hundred Euro, but will give your mixes that last ooomph and sparkle.

Suerte tio!

No no no!
Get it right in the mix. You shouldn't master your own work IMO, when you have the chance to get it right in the mix.
Ok a bit of mild compression on the main out ca be nice but other than that I'd fix anything in the mix.
