Are there any truly legitmate lyrics/songwriting contests online?

I'd been looking online and I have to say, while there are LOTS of contests out there, I'm not impressed with any I have found so far. I've seen plenty that say they'll promote the winning song to hundreds of radio stations...but I'm not a singer/songwriter, just a lyricist trying to graduate to songwriting. On the slight chance that I'd ever win such a contest, I'd much rather have my song promoted to singers whom people would rather listen to than have my demo recording sent to radio stations to be laughed at. :eek: I've also seen one, I believe its lyrics.com or some such, where the "winning" entry was all about the website and titled the same. :confused:Come on....where's the commercial value of that? All I'd need is to have my voice singing a song about a contest website sent to radio stations all over the place to guarantee that I never get taken seriously in the industry.

So, the question stands...are online contests a complete waste of time and money, or are there any out there that might actually be useful?
 
Well, I truly cannot count the number of responses to this question...and I can't count the minutes I spent reading and responding to them. Normally, they say no news is good news, but in this case, I'm guessing that the complete LACK of info flowing in means the answer to the subject question is an emphatic "NO."

Once again, thanks to the 28 people who at least bothered to look at the question. :D
 
Be patient. This is not the most active, or the biggest, forum around. Sometimes it can take a few days to get responses.

I know...and many of the folks here I'm sure are busy actually writing and recording songs. And who knows, maybe I've inspired them all to do their own research, and they're still looking through the 10 billion contests online to see if any are legit. :D
 
I entered a contest for the Duck brand Duct tape guys once.

I'm pretty sure that was entirely on the up-and-up. i.e. You give them your song about their product, and if they like yours the best, you get $500. It won't turn you into a international sensation by any means. But it'll help you sell out that much faster?
