I have a small studio and I share it with someone else. We are worried that the elecetrics might now be safe because we're overpowering them.

Can anyone tell me what is the maximum wattage you can suck out of one plug socket before it gets dangerous? And what are the dangers?

Cheers

as long as the fuse doesn't blow you are safe :D That's what fuses are for, to provide safety.

If you have a 15A circuit breaker, and the outlet was wired correctly, you can draw 15 amps before the breaker flips.

If you're using powerstrips to that outlet, make sure they are rated correctly. I've run into a few 8A power strips here and there which reset themselves if you plug too much stuff into them.

This is also why I have three feeds to my studio... 15A for lighting and some of the non-critical outlets for lamps, clocks, answering machines, etc. Then I have another 20A circuit for all the computer gear, mixing console, and hard disk recorders, and another 20A circuit for music/recording equipment that does not fit the above description.

None of them will be even close to being overloaded. Nothing irritates me more than turning on something and the lights dim slightly.

Having a power conditioner never hurts.

Furman makes a bottom line. 8- outlets, rack mount, musical surge protection for your gear.

Baseline prices are $60.

I have installed GFI receptacles at all outlets.

How does a GFI recepticle help anything audio wise in a studio?
Not jumping on you, just curious.
