im thinking of gettin a tascam 2488 mulitrackrecorder its on zzounds.com
are they any good have any advice for getting a multitrack recorder

I personally think you could do a lot better for $1,000, Tascam has never put their name on anything horrible (that I know of) but sonically, I've thought that Tascam mixers are quite good and that Tascam capture devices themselves are mediocre compared to my other experiences. But if this is your first dabbling into homerecording, it might be right up your alley as an all in one allowing you to hone your tecnhnique. I know to do the same thing in analog I need a bunch of pieces.

I've heard a ton of good material recorded on these units. If I were in the market for a stand alone, I'd seriously consider one.

Might make a stop over at www.tascamforums.com and pop your head into the 2488 section. Quite a few users over there that have a ton of knowledge concerning the 2488.

Good luck.
