I am currently debating saving the extra for the mackie hr28 etc, you know the ones, active etc...over the event 20/20 bas, Is it worth the extra (around a 1000$ can more here)
I know I'm gonna want them if i get the events and I know it takes time to get used to your monitors, so If I only got the mackies I wouldn't have to learn when i upgrade in the future. Well overall ya'll sense what i'm gettin at...Are the Mackies that much better, I'm very serious about this, and i feel it will help me acheive my goals better to have that extra bit better of a reference. is it worth it? I've had some suggestions to just get the mackies and do it right the first time...is this true?
please help as soona s possible, because it's important I need to come to this comclusion in a few days.

Thanks!
peacer!

I'm wanting to listen to the Mackie HR824s, are those the ones you are talking about? I've read a few reviews and they rated well. I couldn't find any info about HR28s.

I definitely think if you feel they are superior and are willing/able to stretch your budget then it's worth it to do it right the first time. The question is how much of a difference in sound quality between the Mackies and the 20/20bas can you actually hear. I'm saving the money, then I'm going to go listen and compare, cause if they are that much better than my current Tannoys to my ear, I'll have to walk out with them. I've heard a couple pairs of Mackies in different places and they were superior to anything else I can afford. I think it just comes down to what you can personally hear, and if that difference is worth the extra price to you. I think it's one of the tougher recording equipment purchases to decide about. Not that that really helps you any.. :)

I have the HR824's. I love them. If you are looking to get a true representation of your mixes these are the monitors to get. I am taking the leap into the world of 5.1 and have been throwing around the idea of buying 3 more. GC in NY (Carle Place) has a pair for sale for $1000.00 ---- I paid $799 each 3 years ago!!!!

did you ever go check out the Behringer Truth monitors? they are the same monitors as the mackie.
No - they are not... somewhat close, but the Behringers have very "floppy" bottom end, whereas the Mackies are tighter... and the KRK V8 blow the Mackies away for clean highs and tight round low-end.

I'm not sure where the JBLs place in that comparison - I didn't get a chance to audition them against the V8s.........

ummm, i've heard the mackies and the behringers... the behringers have a very good bottom end.... i played one of my tracks that go down to 28hz, and the behringers picked up the bass better. the mackies got distorted when i played the song with them.... i'm not taking anything away from the mackies though. right now i'm holding a pair of 20/20bas for a partner of mine.. they picked up the bass on the track better than the mackies too.

I've done direct A/B comparisons on a number of monitors - so I'm not simply talking for the sake of talking.............

YMMV..........

fwiw,

I really like mixes that come of the events, even though I dont have a pair. At $200 used , I would say get them and slap a used amp or receiver on them and you are good to go.

And you have enough money left to buy a pair of yamaha ns10ms

yo!

posted this in teh wrong place I got another similar thread on the mixing board, there's agreat link with reviews of ten monitors on the other post, and it basscally gaev me the impression the mackies are worth it. Thanks for the advice though, but come on teh bass of teh evnt 20/20 bas better than the mackies...:)
I think some people don't really know what's a better even when they A/B the comparisons.

oh yeah, i'm pretty set on the mackies right now, I don't know if anyone could change my mind.
