I'm sure either will do fine, but I'm trying to make a laptop decision around the $1500 mark. I'm looking at either this:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...wo/2B44snQ49m1a3OgNLBt1wrD6NHe/4.0.11.1.0.6.3
or this:

In case those links don't work, the first is a G4 powerbook (1.5GHz model), and the second is a toshiba satellite P35.

I will at most need to record 6-8 tracks simultaneously. My interface is a MOTU828mkii. For software, I use Tracktion2. I don't use a ton of plug-ins, mostly "classic reverb" and the EQ within Tracktion. I mostly use outboard compression (RNC).

I should note that I don't plan to add an external HD for a while.

Screen size isn't a huge deal for me, since T2 is a single screen interface. I should also mention that I want to do ALL my recording and editing/mixing on it. But I will not be using it for anything other than audio. It would be nice if it were reasonably quiet too.

Any tips are welcome. Thanks.

What's wrong that that dell inspiron? :p

i've been looking into the toshiba satellites, too. and the sony vaio's. but im not sure vaio's would do well for recording. *shrug*

The Satellite P35, looks like a pretty solid laptop. The only thing extra i'd get would be a more RAM, but
it'll run perfect even without the extra RAM, but it would help in that long run.

I have a Powerbook, because i like apple better. Only because i've always used MAC thou
and i like the setup structure. But thats my opinion

Because the link was broken, i was unsure wheather or not it was a customized powerbook.

Specifications
1.67GHz PowerPC G4
512 RAM
100GB HD @ 5400 rpm
8x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
128MB Video Memory
AirPort Extreme Card
Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
15.2-inch TFT Display
FireWire 400: One
FireWire 800: One
USB 2.0: Two

$2,489.00 (B&H)
But that runs over your budget, unless your willing to pay a little extra.
If not i would suggest going with the Satellite

Also, The MOTU 828mkii, is Firewire right? Does the laptop have Firewire, i know it has like 3 USB ports.

All the satelites(sp) i just looked at had firewire. 1 firewire..

Hey this song is good. "Fallen"

In terms of pure performance, that Toshiba is in an entirely different class than that Powerbook. However, the Toshiba's battery life probably isn't anything to write home about - I think that processor is just a desktop P4 with a throttled back bus. If you want the best in performance + battery life, look for something with a Pentium M in it.

Regardless, based on your needs, I'd say any modern [non-Celeron] laptop will suffice.
