On the fence with about buying one of these. I realize the apogee is usb 2.0 and the echo is fw 400. Any other reason to buy one over the other?

Well, the main thing that jumps out is that the Audiofire 2 doesn't have preamps, and the duet 2 does.

Does this effect your decision?

I need to be able to plug my guitar in and also to run a stereo line level in from a podxt or drum machine etc.

Simultaneously?
If so, neither of these are good for you. They both have two inputs.
Ok, the echo has spdif also, but that's not really useful here.

You'll want an interface with two lines ins and one instrument in, OR several line ins and a separate DI box.

If not simultaneously, the apogee is most suitable as it's inputs support mic/line/instrument.
Echo makes no mention of instrument input as far as I can see.

One or the other. Like just the guitar straight in OR with the podxt OR just a drum machine in. Just one thing in at once.

OK, well like i say, echo = no good for DI/Inst, and apogee restricts you to two inputs at a time.

There are probably more suitable interfaces out there. Have a shop around the forums here.
See what people are talking about.
