Hi,

I am looking for any and all opinions from the fine (and oh so intelligent) members of this forum on both the Aphex 1100 and the Grace Design Lunatec.

Which would you all recommend? I am looking for a GOOD pre (no "bells and whistles", just the pre) that will work especially well on vocals. I also want it to have A/D converters to S/PDIF.

Also, if there is another one (besides the two mentioned) that I should look at, I would be interested in that info as well.

Thank you much...

You'll have more flexibility if you purchase the preamp and converters seperately.

However, another preamp to consider would be the Focusrite Liquid Channel. Other companies that make preamps with converters built in are Presonus, DBX, Mackie, to name a few.

Thanks for the replies, guys...

As far as purchasing seperate converters and pre's, how could I do that and stay in the ballpark price-wise (of the Aphex and the Grace)? For instance, what would you recommend for a converter? And what pre to go with it?

Thanks again...

I doubt you're going to find anything as good in that price range when you consider the preamps in the Apogee Mini-Me or the Grace Lunatec.

If you'd want to piece it out though, then probably the best thing is going to be something like a Lucid AD9624 and maybe an FMR RNP.

What is the price range we are talking about?

Well...I have been looking "Ebay", so...I would like to keep it around $2000 or so for both a pre/converter setup AND and decent mic (say a Shure KSM44 or a Neumann TLM103).

So...I guess to answer your question...anything in the price range of the Aphex 1100 (about $2000).
