Is there anything inherently wrong with creating sound absorbing panels from carpet padding?
I built one last year (2 ft X 4 ft) and noticed an immediate reduction of reflected sounds after hanging it in the room.
The thing has 3 inches of multiple layers of floor padding.
(My room is made up of 4 walls of paneling with 2 of them (basement walls) being cement foundation)
Thanks!

Well there's nothing wrong with it, as in nobody's going to come arrest you for doing it or quarrel with your morals, unless you run into fire code violations. But unless you're using something else to absorb low frequencies in your room, you're going to still have a lot of unabsorbed low frequencies bouncing around.
