2&4
I´m installing Ubuntu (via Wubi)... I´m planning to leave Microsoft as soon as possible... :D

My only concern is to be able to use my Firepod as good as it works with Cubase...

Is anyone using Ubuntu in your DAW successfully?

I have the latest ubuntu on my triple boot. With WineASIO and rme pci cards its great. SOme of the BeBOB cards are rumoured to work. Its still a giant PITA compared to windows for me, but at least its working.

I run my Edirol FA-101 with FFADO/freebob in Jack and it works great in Ardour.

The Firepod is 'reported to work'... http://ffado.org/?q=node/34

Exactly. FreeBoB has been usurped by ffado and both projects support the Firepod rather well. So, you'll want to use Jack-Audio-Connection-Kit, the low-latency audio server and router, with the FreeBoB or ffado driver. Then run Ardour atop JACK to track and edit.

Linux worked well for me when I used a PC to record, but I was on Gentoo Linux.

I'm using Ubuntu with an Echo Layla... lots of features, works very well, but I'm in an experimental stage and still relying on Windows until I know Ubuntu as well as I know Windows.

I’ve been using Linux since 1996, but there is still a learning curve with Ubuntu in particular. I love it though and anticipate using it exclusively before too long.

:)

I'm a total noob... How can I install FFADO?

Thanks!

Okay, apparently the ffado developers don't want you to use the beta version, and still recommend freebob, which is the same code. I'd bet that there is an ubuntu repository with the freebob package, so it would be a simple apt-get install freebob.

I'm using ubuntu for one year now. For recording i use ardour with jack sound driver (low-latency setting), but for everything else i run xp in vmware workstation, in which i use sonar 7 for mix and FL studio for drums and synth...
So far it's ok experience, although not perfect by far...

I am running the KDE desktop on it and it is nowhere near as stable as the gnome environment. But I tried using Jack and I achieved jack shit. I will give it a go some other time, but right now I am happy booting to XP for recording only.
