The Studio Projects looks like a direct competitor with the AT-4050 in terms of features at an affordable price. I was wondering if any of you folks had experience with the C3 and would like to share your thoughts on it. I have the C1 which for the money is a nice mic but I'd like a mic with the capability of a figure eight pattern for backing vocals.

coloured...

I've got a C3, but would probably rather a 4050. The C3 is coloured and suits some voices, doesn't suit others. Probably very similiar to your C1. I'd suggest getting a more natural mic like the 4050 so you have more variety.

I used one on a female main vox the other day.

Had it plugged into a Focusrite voice master pro and it did a really good job.

Thanks for the feedback/advice Dan & Dr. I agree, with the 4050 I'd have a good variety but it's hard to pass up the C3 at nearly half the price. No one local carries Studio Projects but I did get to try out the 4050 and liked what I heard.

Lambo,

I have 2 Studio Projects B3's that are multi pattern and are a bit more neutral sounding than the C1. They're about $160.00 and are pretty versitile, too.

Just another option that would sound different than the C1.

Hope this helps,

Lucio

Well, one of them is kind of a toy, while the other is a professional tool. And the price mostly reflects this difference.

Well like they say, the difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. :D

Even if they were the exact same price ... the differences would still be there. One's a tool, and the other's a toy.

Chess is an amateur tool.

I have a pair of 4050's, and you'll pry 'em from my cold, dead fingers. I also have a couple of B1's, which see nearly as much use. I think I recently posted that on at least one occasion, I have taken down the ATs to put up the B1's, they were just better on that source, in that room.

I haven't used any of the SP C-#'s, but great clips have been recorded with them, and ears that have access to the best stuff out there review them favorably. They are bright, hyped, or harsh, depending on what source, and who you ask.
