Why so serious?
I've been hearing good things about it, and am thinking of buying one. Pros? Cons?

pros:

it sounds good.....

nice effects.....

has digital outs......

is a reasonable facsimile of several popular amps......

can record loud obnoxious parts without being heard in the next room.......

is only $149 and is awesome for guitar and bass......

cons:

nothin beats a mic'ed amp

I LOVE MY JOHNSON !!!!!!!!!

I like my J-Station, too. I'm a studio musician primarily, so I can only speak about recording, but if I take the time to tweak the presets (using the "deep editing" provided), I can usually find the sound that I want. For $149, the Johnson is a real gem.

When reading product reviews, I've noticed the following trend:
The J-Station is tops (or near tops) for producing clean sounds or a good variety of overdriven sounds. In contrast, some reviewers have felt that the POD beats the J when it comes to producing more outrageous sounds. Since I'm more of a traditional guitarist
(Morse, Howe, Metheney, etc.), I need no more than the J.

If you can, stop by a store and play with it--nothing beats an A-B comparison, right? Good luck, whatever you decide.

J.

I like the Johnson product, the only con is the tabletop design. they should have made it footswitch oreinted like the DGStomp.

The sounds are nicer.

Pro's:
-good sound (although a bit bassheavy with most cabinet sims)
-nice effects
-metal casing
-digital output
-J-Edit seems cool
-way better AND cheaper than POD

Cons:
-the Digitech Genesis 3 at $199 (just $50 more) is better in ALL area's, except the casing.

I tried POD 2.0, J-Station, V-Amp2 and Genesis 3....
To grade them:

1) Genesis 3 = 9 (0utta 10) (The Sansamp PSA-1 seems better)
2) J-Station = 8
3) V-amp 2 = 7
4) POD 2.0 = 7-

Genesis 3 has more and better effects than J-Station, the tube break-up sounds are a hint more convincing, the Warp function is VERY cool and useful, the high-gain sounds are a tad better than J-Station's and well... it looks cooler too... ;)

So, if you got the change, A/b the J-Station with the Genesis 3, and see what you like best. You'll regret it if you didn't...
