Ive got a deskpro p3 500mhz and looking for a sound card - any suggestions?

Alot of compaq's are uncapable of upgrades in this area. Not sure about your paticular model though. I dont know how efficient they are when it comes to recording either.
But, best of luck to ya

You will probably want to check with compaq (website first, call only as a last resort) to make sure you have normal pci slots on your motherboard. Also, If you dink around inside your PC they will get all pissy cause they think they're the only morons qualified to do it.

Assuming you haven't been screwed by compaq's love for proprietary hardware, most of the soundcards talked about on this board will be good.Look around at the other threads. You can pull alot of weight with that p3, even at 500mhz.

I have a Compaq Presario and I put an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 in it last week and so far no trouble at all.(knock on wood!)

We've got an older Compaq (PII actually) that we use for our regular PC and even it's got PCI slots (it's even got ISA's which I don't see those around anymore) so I'm guessing you should be safe in that department. Now from there you're on your own.

my previous computer was a compaq presario, and i added drives, changed modems, soundcards, video cards and everything. i had no trouble using a delta 44 with it either...
