anyone using a tv for monitor

I have a situation that in some instances I could use a LARGE screen for computer recording. Anyone used/using a large TV...like a 27"+, with a video card with a TV out? I don't really care toooo much about quality, but need to see the screen from 10' away or more at times.

Going that big, would the resolution really suck if I'm only using something like Sound Forge and Adobe Audition?

I've wondered that myself. I use an ATI All in Wonder (TV Tuner) card, and a flat panel monitor. I can watch TV and do my 'puter stuff at the same time. I'd like to go with a bigger screen. I've wondered about the possibility of using a digital projector and turn my bedroom wall into a monitor. What do you think?

in theory this sounds like a neat idea.
but in practice you need to think about some ramifications.
the tuner card normally occupies a pci slot in the computer.
if your sound card is also pci and in a pci slot there is a potential issue.
on some systems the tuner card could make system demands thus possibly
interrupting the activity of the sound card.
the pci bus is quite sensitive to this issue from what ive seen on many systems. there have been several cases where once the tuner card was pulled out the pci sound card returned to normal and there were no audio interruptions. NOW, on your system you might not get this anomoly but on others it might exhibit itself.
in my own systems with a sound card in a pci slot i have nothing in other pci slots thus insuring no possible sound card interruptions on the pci bus.

Yeah, I get some sluggish response from my machine sometimes. I have a 2ghz AMD w/ 256mb of DDR and use three pci slots - two soundcards and the video card/tv tuner. I use a SB Live 5.1 for audio out, and an SB Audigy 24bit for my IN. I often have the TV going (it has it's own audio out) while I run Windows Media Player (with headphones), Audacity, the Creative Mixer, and sometimes Musicmatch Jukebox (all at the same time).

You're probably freakin' out by now. Actually the only time it gets sluggish is when I do a mixdown of, say, 10 tracks into two (stereo). Then I just shut all the other stuff down. 'Course that's my recording computer. I use my laptop for internet stuff. Don't want my recording 'puter to be connected to the 'net.

If I did the smart thing, I would get an AGP vid card. Doing the smart thing would be out of character for me though

Excellent choice.

I do my net stuff on a different computer or at work.
This keeps my music PC
a) virus free,
b) clutter free,
c) more stable ( nothing slips through the cracks, unless "I" install it
