Hi folks, I'm thinking of getting a pair of Studio Spares SN10 passive speakers for A/B reference monitoring against and just wondered if anyone has used them? What do you think to them, if so? Is there a bass port in the back? What's the sound like? They seem to be regarded as OK for exposing mids, but it the general sound just mid-dominating tinny rubbish? If you've got / owned a pair, it;d be great to hear from you with any thoughts / opinions on their general performance. Kind regards. P

I'm thinking of buying some. My mate has a pretty well equipped studio and is a gear fiend. He has these and I've always liked them for listening to. Most things tend to sound the same in his studio as they do in my car, iPod, club etc.

This would be my first set of monitors if I do get them so I'm interested in other people's feedback.

Ah, so you've heard them in person, then? I've read that the Yamaha NS10's (on which these are 'allegedly' based) sound very nasty - too much mids but not enough top or bottom . I have also read that these Studio Spares SN10's, whilst looking like the Yam's, don't actually sound much like them. If that's the case, I might invest. Seems like a decent package for a second pair of reference monitors, for A/B comparison to my main set.

Bare in mind I don't own any monitors and only use monitors when I'm at someone's studio. Out of all of the ones I've used I've liked these as they sounded like regular hifi speakers which in itself probably isn't ideal but the mixes we've (he) done on them translated pretty well to other systems. Others I've been round have sounded harsh and then I still have to make some adjustments and remix songs to compensate.

My mate is pretty technical as well and has set up bass traps and other stuff to get a good listening environment which I imagine helps loads.
