i've been wanting to get a new mic for a while. i've alredy got a couple of budget condeners which have got me good results up to now. but i'm looking for a descent vocal mic, but which is also a good all rounder. i've got some cash from christmas (about £400) so i'm now trying to decide what mic to get.
i came across the violet design range and they seem like they're descent. has anyone had any experience with these mics?
one thing though, the only preamps i've got are the ones on the alesis firewire mixers.
so i'm thinking should i get a dmp3 (seems a very popular choice) and then get a mic for a couple of hundred, like the violet design 'dolly'. or should i go for a mic for £400. or should i not even bother with a new mic and spend the whole lot on a preamp. will £400 get me a preamp that's any better than the dmp3.
i'm definitely not going to save the money cos i won't be getting anymore for a long time, so i'm just looking to upgrade my setup as much i can with this money now.
i know it's a lot of questions but obviously i want to spend it wisely
thanks
