Same thing as an Apex 460 and one of the Nady mics. You could search on Apex 460, there have been many threads.

Also got this link from an ad in the mail today, these guys call it a CM-1.

I bought a couple Stellar CM-1's from those guys, great service!
They have a really good price for the "460 /M16" type mic.

Free shipping + free pop filter. Good stuff! :)

I have not used the Carvin mic, but a friend of mine has one and loves it!! Try it and if it does not fit your needs, take advantage of the 10 day return policy with Carvin.

This mic needs a lot of work to be usable in a serious environment. For a first tube mic venture it's not too bad, but don't think you're going to be amazed by it, because you won't be.

Ditto that (Apex 460 version).

This is not really a answer to your question... But... You could pick up a used NTK for the same price of $300. Just an idea.

Carvin sells rebadged Chinese mikes. They are generally good quality. A few years ago I had one that was simultanoeously being sold by Carvin and CAD. It was really very good sounding. My only complaint was that I got the CAD version on sale for about $80 and Carvin was selling theirs for about $300.

I generally really like Carvin, and the mikes are good. but you can probably find the same thing cheaper.

Update: I just checked the carvin site. My mike was this one (under the CAD name)

Carvin's price has gone down, and it is a very warm, full, clear sounding mike.

I never liked the idea of Carvin repackaging other manufacture’s products. They have made their own stuff for so long, so adding these cheep products to their label makes their reputation go down in my book. I would have rather seen them design and build their own line of mics.

I asked them about that. They felt that their locale did not afford them a quiet enough place to test and develop.

But I have to agree, once I found out that they didn't make their own, there was no reason to by them.

I understand that Carvin always outsourced their mikes, even way back when, and had them built to their design by Shure and other manufacturers. That may still be true of older designs like the M68 dynamic (but don't hold me to it, they may have changed that too).
