how about compared to the speck? i think the speck is like 100 bucks more....

rane the good at 'airing out' vocals thats what i primarily want it for...all other eq duties can be plug- in based..

The ME15b is a 2/3 octave unit, and not as versatile as the 1/3 octave Ranes, IMO.

The GE30, GE60, and ME60 are the more desirable interpolating types. I own a GE30, and a non-interpolating ME30b. The ME60 are real nice, but hard to come by on eBay.

I also own an MLM82a and MLM42 preamps with Burr-Brown ICs. I also own a pair of MX22 crossovers, MH4 headphone amp, and MC22 compressor.

Be careful with used Rane products, and take note of the suffix. There is a big difference between an ME30 (obsolete), and ME30B (current).

Rane gear sells for significantly less than 66% of new-discount mail order price, on eBay. Terrible for sellers, but great for those of us buying Rane.

I'd get the speck if I had my choice, but overall, Rane makes some pretty decent EQ's.

Honestly, though, if you're on a budget, swipe a dbx (Project I) 242 off ebay for cheap and be happy with it untill you're ready to move in to the Speck territory.

The Rane EQ are available every day for under $100 on eBay. I suspect the Speck units are much more expensive.

I looked at the Speck unit. This is a parametric EQ, which is a different animal than the Rane mentioned above.

I owned a Rane PE17, which is a 5-band parametric. It is independently adjustable by band, and has overlap capability.

For me, knob twiddling gave me no visual cue, so I replaced it with an interpolating graphic type EQ.
