I was just wondering how you like it.

Or if anyone else has any comments.

I've been seeing a few go pretty cheap on eBay and I was thinking about picking one up. The only thing I don't like about them is that they don't have a headphone jack for private listening.

I just got mine from FedEx today. I'm still at work so I haven't even plugged it in. I'll play with it tonight and post some thoughts in the next day or two.

Cheers!

OK, here is my initial reaction:

WOW!

Please realize that this reaction is from a skeptical mind. I plugged this thing in expecting to be disappointed. If it wasn't significantly better than what I already have, it was going back.

I plugged this thing in, powered it up, played on the first preset and was hooked. I was at my drummer's house and he was just as impressed. It was immediately apparent that the sound quality of the effects was really good and better than my current processor (Rocktron Intellifex LTD). And this thing seems to be very transparent! I really feel like now I've got a processor worthy of sticking in the effects loop on my Budda.

I only got to play with it for about 30 minutes with my amp cranked and sounding good. But I messed around for another hour or so with the amp real quiet. Most of the presets sound _really_ good and the rest would sound really good with a little tweaking. The only things I've tried tweaking so far were the EQ and the Noise Gate. Both were very easy to access and manipulate.

The Rocktron was pretty transparent and the effects were OK-- nothing very exciting. I've also owned an Alesis MidiVerb IV, a Digitech model, and played around with many different processors that friends have owned over the years. This G Major is by far the best sounding processor I've used. Take that with a grain of salt because I've never had the opportunity to play with a high-end processor.

The only negative so far is it does add significant hiss to my sound. Without the G Major in the loop, my amp is very quiet. But with it in the loop there is significant hiss. It's not going to be a problem at gig levels, but it's kind of annoying at bedroom levels. The noise gate cuts it about in half-- but I've never been crazy about noise gates on guitar.

Anyway, I may post more after I've gotten down and dirty with this thing. It's going to be fun... weeeeee... :D

That's great to hear. I'm currently using a Digitech GSP2101 but I'm always looking for something new and have been thinking about picking one of those up. Great to hear it's all that and more.

Recently purchased G Major off of eBay for $131.50

I also own and use a GSP 2101 that I recently upgraded with EH tubes, 20mhz clock and artist 3.01 eeproms (thank you Dieter). I love the G major but it also adds noticeable hiss to my amp. I am running it through the effects loop of a Peavey Bravo 112 and at room volume the hiss is annoying. At small venue volume it is not really noticeable. The noise gate cuts my sound out...need to experiment with the Real Major software to edit some parameters to see what works best. Lot of good info from the forum here...thanks.

I love my G major 2. Get a Ground Control or something similar and a couple volume pedals for expression and you have a lot of options....especially since then you can use the extension jack on the unit for a tap tempo. Plus you can rig up a Pedal Switcher and integrate your pedals into the presets.

I don't have any hiss issues going through a Mark V. It took a while to get setup and the levels set correct, but the reverbs and delays are amazing, and the pitch shifting/harmonizing makes the Digitech Whammy look like a toy.

I would splurge on this and get it new....only because the build quality is okay if you treat it well, but after using it I would never buy it used. Someone who doesn't take care with it will break the buttons and knobs. Make sure you look at what the G Major 2 offers if you are thinking of getting the original as there are a few more effects.

A Mark V and a G-Major? I think the Swiss Army has been looking for you :D
