OK, here is my initial reaction:
WOW!
Please realize that this reaction is from a skeptical mind. I plugged this thing in expecting to be disappointed. If it wasn't significantly better than what I already have, it was going back.
I plugged this thing in, powered it up, played on the first preset and was hooked. I was at my drummer's house and he was just as impressed. It was immediately apparent that the sound quality of the effects was really good and better than my current processor (
Rocktron Intellifex LTD). And this thing seems to be very transparent! I really feel like now I've got a processor worthy of sticking in the effects loop on my Budda.
I only got to play with it for about 30 minutes with my amp cranked and sounding good. But I messed around for another hour or so with the amp real quiet. Most of the presets sound _really_ good and the rest would sound really good with a little tweaking. The only things I've tried tweaking so far were the EQ and the Noise Gate. Both were very easy to access and manipulate.
The Rocktron was pretty transparent and the effects were OK-- nothing very exciting. I've also owned an Alesis MidiVerb IV, a Digitech model, and played around with many different processors that friends have owned over the years. This G Major is by far the best sounding processor I've used. Take that with a grain of salt because I've never had the opportunity to play with a high-end processor.
The only negative so far is it does add significant hiss to my sound. Without the G Major in the loop, my amp is very quiet. But with it in the loop there is significant hiss. It's not going to be a problem at gig levels, but it's kind of annoying at bedroom levels. The noise gate cuts it about in half-- but I've never been crazy about noise gates on guitar.
Anyway, I may post more after I've gotten down and dirty with this thing. It's going to be fun... weeeeee...
