Unpossible!
I am a total newbie to recording, and have a couple questions. Anyone here own or use a Tascam M-1600 mixer?

Thanks in advance.

I don't own one but am moderately familiar with it and it's features so if you have some specific questions, fire away!

Cheers! :)

Answered one question myself, but I have another -

Do they solo/mute switches not work for the stereo master outputs? The solo light comes on, but i still hear all the tracks.

Thanks.

You must connect your monitoring system to the monitor/control room output jacks in order for the Solo system to work properly.

If you're monitoring anything other then the Monitor/control room outs, you will not hear the solo function.

This way, you can isolate a track in the mix and not disturb a recording or mastering buss accidentally while tracking.

Channel muting is another matter. If the board offers dedicated mute buttons on each channel, pressing that should mute the individual channel in question and allow the rest of the mix to pass through to the desired destination.

The Solo function works in reverse through the monitor outs only and isolates the desired channel whilst muting all the others.

Get the picture?

Cheers! :)

Thanks!

That did the trick.

Does anyone know where I could get a copy of the manual for it?

Do not e-mail them!

They never answer to e-mails.

Call them and speak to the parts department directly with credit card in hand and they will ship post haste!

Cheers! :)

Thanks, I will call them monday. I went to thier website, and they didn't offer any support for the m-1600 anymore, so I thought I was out of luck.

BTW, I really like "The gang's all here"!

Thanks again,

Thanks for the kind words about the song Billy Furnett wrote and sent along to me to finish up.

Billy and I both have TASCAM M312B mixers and 38, half inch, 8 track reel to reels. Because of the same equipment, we can do collaboration projects together and send the tapes back and forth in the mail. He lives in Chicago and me Toronto.

A few of the guys here also have the same stuff and we have tentative plans to do other projects in the future, together as time allows.

Billy is going to be away for a few months so if Herm or ARP is reading this, please know that Billy hasn't forgotten about us but is just tied up for a while on personal projects that will keep him away from contact here with us.

Thanks again.;)

I used to have an M-308B mixer along with a 38, I remember scouring the music stores all over the state looking for the noise reduction units for it, I never did get a functional pair though, then I sold the whole setup, and used a TSR-8 along with an M-208 mixer for a while, I still have that setup, along with the M-1600 and an MSR16S 1/2" 16 track, I haven't used any of that stuff in a while now, maybe one of these days I'll hook up the TSR-8 again..
