If you would do a search on a some of the forums here, you would find threads on Traktion.

It's not 'pretty good' - it's Grrrrr-8!

I've used every almost every software sequencer back to the Atari ST days of PRO 24 (which became Cubase) and Notator (which became Logic). In between then + now I developed a healthy dislike for complicated software. Tracktion has a single screen with everything you need and very little that you don't - especially now that T2 is on sale. Good midi implementation, easy editing of both audio and midi, unlimited tracks, plenty of bundled plugins including VSTfx, VST instruments and a fistful of Mackie soft compressors and de-essers that are some of the best I've used. Workflow is as smooth as silk and the program itself hasn't crashed once - and I give it a WORKOUT!

I have a copy of Traktion 1.6.0.1. Mackie was giving it away for a while late last year. I really like the layout. Everything is on one page and easy to get to. It was very buggy for me though. I had'nt used it in a long time but after reading this thread, I installed it and gave it another try. I got the same results as before. Maybe Traktion 2 is less buggy? If I was looking for new recording software, I'd check it out anyway.

Most of the bugs I experienced were midi problems.

i really didn't like it. i haven't tried the 2.0 version yet. i started recording with cubase back in the day and i'm used to windows upon windows -- not the simplistic one-window deal. if i wanted that, i'd use garageband, which comes with quite a few free instruments and fx. that said, i am sure tracktion works great for some people. it's just not my cup of tea.
