I was going to sell my CD through Amazon.com, but I see they want 55 per cent of the money. I'd say screw them, except my CD is Stravinsky's Rite of Spring arranged for electric guitar, electric bass and drums/percussion, so the many people who go there looking for Stravinsky may see my CD and I might get sales just from that. What do y'all think?

I've got my CD on Amazon and haven't sold enough to make it worthwhile. They also want a "setup fee" of some kind now. Can't remember how much. I got lucky and got mine in just before they instituted that, so I didn't pay the fee. For some reason, I've sold many more on CDBaby than Amazon (same with CDStreet, but I've yet to be paid from them). The reason I set up on Amazon was to make the average Joe more comfortable, thinking Amazon was more recognizable than the others.

Another thing to think about is how many people are going to do a search for "Stravinsky" on Amazon, after that, how many are going to scroll to your listing, and then how many are going to take a chance on your CD. Think it still might be worth it? Well...there are 1,218 results for a "Stravinsky" search at Amazon, listed in descending order from the most popular seller down. That's 122 pages of results with yours on the bottom of the 122nd page.

... i've used most of the online distributors, and i think cd baby is the best for service/exposure/price, and derek sivers runs a tight ship and offers unbelievable amounts of advice on his site.
