Anyone see the SM57 mod in tape-op?

I basically involves unscrewing the body, cutting the wires and removing the transformer and soldering it back up. They are claiming a boost in the low end, less of the usual honk but slightly less gain. It's supposed to sound more like the SM7. I'm going to do it to one of mine for sure.

Lots of good info on the SM57 mod here , including ideas on suitable transformers to use should you wish to replace it.

I did mine yesterday, and like the result! Does need a significant boost to get back up to the normal dB of the un-modded 57, but it sounds great.

It'll be a featured vocal mic from now on, I think, especially for spoken-word type stuff, which I'm into integrating with some material.

Painted it a nice dusky blue. Dries up the sound a bit. :)
