Anyone Running Firestudio Successfully on Mac?

Hi,
Is anyone able to record and monitor through their Firestudio 26x26 on a Mac of any sort?

I have been having problems successfully monitoring from my Presonus Firestudio 26x26 with my Mac Pro.

After I finally (recently) got to grips with the Firestudio's software mixer/routing (the Control Console), the FS ran fine for a couple of days but since then has not allowed me to do any monitoring at all. The only way I can hear the results of any recording through the FS are by changing the output device setting to monitor my computer's built-in speaker. And of course, this means that I cannot monitor anything properly during recording.

This is the case with both installations I have of the FS on two different operating systems (Tiger and Snow Leopard) on two different hard drives on my computer.

I have tried the various uninstall solutions detailed on the Presonus webiste, and even erased and reformatted my Snow Leopard hard drive, prior to reinstalling Snow Leopard. But still I have no ability to monitor on either the Tiger or SL drives.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

If two different setups broke simultaneously, that means one of two things: you made some persistent configuration change that got flashed into the device with the setup app or, more likely, the hardware is defective.

Yup, I had worked that out already, but thanks anyway.

Are you running a FS 26x26 successfully on a Mac?

No. I've steered clear of all the interfaces built with that particular chipset. They have a long history of bizarre driver problems.

Have you had experience of units of similar specifications with chipsets which work with the Mac?

I actually had someone come over to trouble shoot the problems I was having, and he works in a Mac only professional audio store, and says that the problems with the FS drivers were rife 2-3 years ago, but have cleared up now for the most part.

The MOTU 8Pre is the one I always recommend for Mac folks. MOTU used to be an all-Mac shop, and they still are pretty Mac-centric. Their drivers are generally pretty solid.

Hi dgatwood,
Thanks for your reply.

I originally looked at/researched the Moto 8 Pre, and chose the Firestudio 26x26 in preference to the Motu 8 Pre.

However, having had the (continued) problems I have had with the FS /FS drivers, I might reconsider the Motu.

Thanks,
