I was just finallizing some specs for my new amp project, and I got to thinking - what would it sound like if I put a choke in my current amp?

it currently uses a 470 ohm 5W resistor, but I may be able to replace it with a 429 ohm 75ma 14H choke for $15. Maybe even make it possible to switch between the two....

has anyone tried this before? and can you share your results?

THe main problem with doing this mod is that I would have to mount the choke far away from the location of the resistor and use long wires to hook it up - doesn't seem like the best thing to do.....

I allways do.
No matter how small it is (even 2-3 H),it has to be there.I noticed that lows become more tighter and precise when the screen grids are feed via a choke as from a resistor. Also, the ripple is smaller when using a choke, making the whole amp quieter in terms of hum.
The next step would be using some gas stabilytrons tubes (OA2,OB2,etc) after the choke for feeding the output tubes' screens.Such a form of screen regulation gives unexpected good results!
