That's cool...a year or so ago I was working on what I called "The Haven Project"...and I'm still kind of working on it...without giving up details, I was planning on running patch bays in the walls all throughout the studios....like every six feet would be a 1/4" patch panel with maybe 10 or 12 ins & outs. When you plugged something in on one of the channels, a light would light up next to that channel on all the bays throughout the room (to avoid people accidentally plugging things into the wrong holes). A pretty simple idea and I worked with my hardware guy on it a little bit.
Basically the idea is that you can stick, for instance, a PA in the corner of a room and the speakers in opposite corners...but you don't have to run a cable all the way across the room for each speaker...you just plug the outputs of the PA and the speakers into the patch bay with short patch cables. Greatly reducing most wirey messes that tend to occure.
Oh man...I'm starting to get the itch for that again...anyone got $500,000 they can loan me? It'll pay off I promise!
