Any idea what a two inch Studer headblock costs? Or a Tascam MSR24 head?

£76.82 is a joke compared to that, believe me.

It was about £1500 for the MSR24 head last I looked. The TSR-8 is about £300.
CHS only sell Tascam parts, though (and they don't have the price for the 2" Tascam headblocks).

Did some research (why didn't I just do it prior to asking here? :confused: :o ) and found this:

It's in Japan Jen and I'm not sure if the prices are updated but each head costs about $80 USD. Hmm... :confused:

I have bought from this website and can vouch that they are reputable. I purchased their very last Accessory 2 cable for something like $90.

Be glad it not a 388 head. At 55000 Yen thats a cool $470 US.
Shows you how important it is to chenck the heads before you put your money down on a machine!!

I've bought and sold nice 388's...whole machine... for less than this kind of money

What's the point of comparing an elephant to a dog ?? Same as comparing an MCI / Studer headblock to a measly 1/4 inch, 4 track (prosumer) one or one of the other comparisons noted above. There is a price difference and a huge one at that but so what ? You pay accordingly to what you are getting. No need to scoff at the lower end of the gear line.

Yes and they're discontinued from their website. I've heard Dave (ARP) say they cost $700 from TASCAM direct, if I'm not mistaken.

Big deal. The MCI JH24 heads are:
Rec = $1500
Erase = $1800
Play = $1300

3 are pretty expensive.

Not to criticize or bash you or your gear in any way but this is one (of several) of the reasons many here (or at least I) would recommend a TEAC or TASCAM over any of the "pro" designated gear for the average home recordist. Parts and upkeep of such gear (pro) is just too expensive (comparetively speaking).

eurika

I can get heads for my 3300 still excellent

I'm just about to start using analog tape within a pro-tools setup, try & harness some analog warmth into my drum sound in particular

wahey thanks BBS forums :) :) :)

Just bought a brand new 3440 head assembly (all 3 heads) for $60 shipped! :D

Reason: I still can't get over losing out on 388 heads that went for about 50 bucks on eBay last year sometime. Right, Herm ? :D ;)

I got the new 388 head, w/new 388 pinch roller & new belt for $140/shipped

..........................;)
I also got some new 4-track Portastudio (cassette) heads & some halftrack cassette heads for the 124AV, way cheap,... like $15/ea.
