recently, i discovered the thrill of making instrument cables and selling them at a very cheap price. i have some questions though(to those of you who know about instr cables). Okay, does anyone know how i hook up a cable to a 1/4" plug? I have a template for the assembly but some cables come w/ 1, 2, or even 3 wires inside. Therefore, i don't what kind to use. I need cheap assembly. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Hmmmm...OK, I'll bite. For unbalanced cables, you'll have a single center conductor surrounded by a shield (the shiels may be anything from fine gauge wire either braded around the center conductor's dialectric or spiral wrapped to a single "drain" wire in conjunction with a foil wrap. Center conductor soldered to the tip of a two conductor 1/4" connector and the shield to the gound.
For balanced lines, it's the same as the above discription except there will be two center conductors surrounded by the shield. It doesn't matter what conductor gets soldered to which pin of the three conductor 1/4" connector AS LONG AS THEY'RE THE SAME ON BOTH ENDS and of course, the shield goes to ground.
Solder on.

I can't help but find humor in that. Shouldn't that thrill have come after getting this question answered?

So mr. Hosa, what kind of warranty comes with these cables...

I used to use hosa and make my own. After about $1000 in all kinds of orange and grey, and countless hours of stripping and soldering, I was quite dismayed by all the crackling and humming.

Now it's all horizon studiolink gold, various high end monster, esoteric, acoustic research, and planet waves.

It sounds much better these days.

But don't let me ruin your new found enterprise.:)
