Anyone here have an idea on how Ben Gibbard records his vocals?

this might be a stupid question but o well, i've been listinin to alot of Death cab for cutie, Postal Service, ect stuff like that latley and i love the way Ben's Vocals sounds, not to mention the way he writes his songs, and i know that alot of it comes from just being him and having his voice, but i want to ask if any of yall know how he prolly would place the mic? or effects? Doubling? stuff like that.

i hear a large condenser with a good amount of compression on the newer stuff (transatlantisism, plans, postal service) and on some songs; a little bit of echo. also close miking to get the proximity effect of the full voice sound in the newer stuff also. in his older stuff i sense more ambiance, reverbs, further miking techniques, and lower quality dynamics like the person above me said. this is just what i hear so anyone else who knows anything add your two cents or correct mine. gibbard is an amazing songwriter and singer and to capture a voice like his correctly sounds beautiful.good luck!
 
Chris Walla has an archived guest mod forum over at Prosoundweb.com...you might find something out there.
 
thanks guys, yeah i figured he was using compression, i love the new Plans album. i've listined to it like 1000 times now. But yeah i think he might be cutting off alot of the lows on the mic too because when i try to sing close into the mic, it will rumble every now and then.
