Bart Davenport's new album has a beautiful, sparse production sound that I love. I kept thinking the vocals must have been recorded with a Neumann or $$$ ribbon mic and emailed the engineer on the album, Sam Flax about what they used. He said they used an Audio Technica 4033 for all the vocals(!) and an Electrodyne 712 preamp straight to Otari 1/2" 8 track.
Bart has a great voice to begin with so that's pretty much 99% of it, but I'm curious about the Electrodyne 712 preamp. Anybody work with one before?
