I'm wondering how good these products are, and if they'd work well together :o

Why asking the questions you already got answers for in other threads again??

I don't have the answers. Nothings be said that they will work well. I'd like to hear from someone who actually has a Mackie/Maudio USB card so I can make a judgement from that rather than just going "OK someone mentioned getting a Mackie, so I'll get one". I don't mean to be repeating myself, but no one who has a Mackie or Maudio card is going to look in that thread probably. Sorry :(

What can go wrong with connecting a mixer with a soundcard, assuming you have the right cables? It's not that there's going to be any hardware compatibity problems or drivers issues just because you hook a mixer on to a soundcard.

If the mixer has the I/O that you're looking for and if the soundcard has the I/O that you're looking for and if you have a clue what their routing capabilities are, what do you expect to go wrong? It's just like hooking the mixer up to the PCI version of the audiophile or any other similar soundcard. You should expect more issues getting the USB audiophile to work with the computer but that's a different ballgame.

It's all about interfacing analog audio signals. Nothing more, nothing less.

Right... and finally I just wanted to know whether or not USB cards are any good, from first person experience, rather than just "This card will work with a laptop" :) Sound quality. Sorry if I'm repeating myself.

Do a search for USB on this forum (or other soundcard forums like on harmony central or sound on sound). You will find that while there are many happy users there are also a significant number of people who have had lots problems getting usb interfaces (from all manufacturers) to work and usually have to sell/return them.

You would be safer trying out pcmcia based soundcards. These would include the digigram vxpocket and the soon to be released echo indigo i/o. More expensive examples would be those from RME and the Echo Layla laptop. There are also firewire solutions (eg MOTU).
