With a digital console, you'd miss out on analog summing, which is a big deal, from what I hear.

(It must not be a big enough deal for me to give up mixing in Sonar, though.:) )

Total $500 - and you got at least a mic and a soundcard that are keepers longer term. I know leaving out the computer is cheating, but there are a ton of people out there with decent spec computers who want to record.
