This also looks like a nice unit, although I don't know if you can hook up any speakers to it. And then do the XLR mic inputs come with pre-amps? The literature simply doesn't really say, other than just phantom power.

It does have pre amps... but they are pretty weak. Most of us use a mic pre or a mixer with it

As you can see in this picture, you can hook speakers up to it, using the stereo outs.
