Anyone else using the UAOXBOX for tracking guitars?

That thing got rave reviews when it came out, and I know a lot of players are using it. It's not cheap though.

Mine was around $1200, and worth every penny. It changed the way I record.

Buddy Miller uses two live in his stereo rig.

I use an old Line 6 Podxt to record, but am thinking about upgrading to their rack model, the most recent one. I rarely play out, but have used the Pod when I have, through an amp.

OXBOX looks like a killer unit.
I was using a Rivera Rockcrusher Recording for a short time before I got a Kemper. Now the Kemper is my do all device.

It keeps the sound of your head and pedals and lets you switch out mics and cabinets, plus you get a 1176, delay, EQ and reverb plugins built in. You get two phase aligned signals. Most of the time once I track with it I don’t use any plugins on mixdown because it’s all there going in.

When I first got it I turned it on and just tried to find my sound by turning knobs and settings, once I found it it turned out to be the same speaker and mics that I use to get my sound. That blew me away. It’s now my favorite way to record electric guitar.

It’s not really like a Kemper or a line 6, because it uses your amp and maintains your amp sound throughout.

Yeah, I've read a bit and seen lots of vids. Extremely feature rich!

Oh yeah! I use my POD 2.0 to record all the time!

The OX looks awesome and I’d love to try one though!

I got an Ox right when it came out (2018 or 2019?). I use it quite a bit and the one thing I am happy about is that UA hasn't added any features.

People have asked for bells and whistles, but it does what it does well and that's how I like it.

I have a little snake (see bottom left pic) with four line-in jacks. I run two lines from the Ox and a direct signal from a countryman in case I need it later then I also mic the amps.

The only thing I wish the Ox had was more ohm settings (like 2 ohms) and some bass cab - maybe a Portaflex 15 and a 4x10? I can live without those, though.

I spy an API. Great minds think alike!

I’ve been very tempted to grab an Ox Box. I currently (occasionally) use a Palmer PDI03 (previously owned by Billy Corgan actually, I call it the Billy Box, haha!). It works great, but kind of old school early cab sim-ish hardware. Has anyone ever tried a Palmer with a cab sim plugin? I wonder how that would sound. Might give it a try.

I usually record into a Neve DI box that gives me a DI signal plus either a real amp or a line 6 POD (just depends on how late I’m recording at night). I’ll take the DI and put on a neural DSP plugin (Cali Fortin, sounds amazing!).

Any less expensive alternatives to the Ox Box? Or better alternative at a similar price? That thing has been around a while. Might be something better around the corner.

the OX Box is very good with Guitar Amps - but I don’t bother because I use the Helix for everything Guitar - the proof is no one can tell how I achieved the sounds I get - people just assume it’s an amp.

They have come out with this unit, but I have not tried it. I’m not sure if this is the box the Edge used with U2 for the Sphere concerts but I read that he played the entire show through a UA device like this.

Also there are some used ones marked down now.

I’ve never tried the Helix but I have tried the Kemper. The Kemper did not impress me that much. I think that because it works with amps is one of the reasons I like it.

The Edge used 3 UA Boxes - The Ruby, The Dream and the Woodrow - and he used two Fractal boxes for different Amps and effects at the Sphere.

I'm unfamiliar with that cool-looking Frigidaire Amp--looks like an old classic in that color!
