I've been having a crackling problem with my custom build athlon 800mhz pc w/via kt133 chipset, audiophile2496, win2000, and am looking for some advice. I can playback audio fine with no crackling, for example mp3's and stuff like that. But when I try to record, thats when the problem happens. Right when I monitor my inputs from cakewalk and play a guitar riff I immediatley notice the crackling. I'm pretty sure the problem lies within the via chipset or win2000 because I put the audiophile in a 300mhz compaq and there was no crackling. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so what did you do? I was thinking about buying a budget pc just for recording but they all come with winXP..is anyone having problems with winXP? I'd appreciate any and all feedback.

I don't have VIA chipset, but I remember seing a not at midiman website, that in order to eliminate some incompatibility issue between audiophile and older VIA it is necessary to download and install a couple of patches.

1. Go to www.viaarena.com
2. Get the latest Via 4 in 1 drivers
3. Install the new drivers

If that doesn't help, increase the PCI ltency from BIOS to 128, if you can

If you can't, install George Breese's PCI latency patch. You can find it at www.viahardware.com. The blah applies, I'm not responsible for damage to you system if you install these. This procedure is at your own risk blah blah blah...
