Do you people generally make a habit of registering a song with the L.O.C. before posting it? Supposedly once it's been recorded it's covered even though it's not registered, but how can you protect yourself? Not that anyone would wanna steal my stuff, just curious about those who are good enough to be worried.

Hey VT...

The way I look at it man is that if someone really wanted to rip off my material.......then good luck to them.

You are right though.
Copyright protection is in force at the moment of creation.
Registering with the LOC gives you protection in court....that's the only place it really counts though...ya know?

I ususally register after 5 or 6 songs are done and register them as "a collection of songs"...I almost always have co-writers so, I have to get their info too....

I have to do it again pretty soon too.

No worries man.

I agree with Joro. But I usually write the entire CD's worth of music before sending it to be copyrighten. I won't do anything until I at least get the PA form registered. Then wait for the recording to get the SR forms sent off. It seems like if you have the PA registered that would be all you need. Then at least you can say that's mine and you stole it.

I know you can do it both at the same time but if I want to play out somewhere before the recording then the PA protects me there. Anyway, It is a good idea to get protection in some form to keep the wolves at bay.

forgive my ignorance

but I'm new to the procedure. Just what is a PA form? I'm assuming that all the needed forms are available at the LOC website, right?
