Anybody Wanna' Play Bass On This?

I know my limits when it comes to bass, and I can't do anything but suck on this song.

It's a friend of a friend who asked me to track a few songs for him. He's not horrible, but it's just not my bag. I could just give him what he recorded (acoustic guitars and vocals), but I like the guy, and I wanted to help him out with a more full arrangement.

If anybody is moved by this to pick up a bass and record, I'd be grateful.

BTW - The "drums" are just a non-changing loop right now to let you know sort of what the groove is...they will improve once I get a bass track that allows me to care enough to finish this song, LOL!!!

Not really mixed yet, either...Man, can I sell a f*&^ing song or what?!?!?!

lmfao...dude, and I mean this with the utmost seriousness...if I could chart it out, I would have already laid down a bass track. :D

I know it's in D...sounds like 2 variants of D...hmmm...That weird one sounds like an Asharp...heheheee...

Honestly, I'm not being lazy...it's 1 a.m. and I can't pull out the guitar and figure it out right now without getting served with divorce papers, or I would. I appreciate you trying, and I would be thrilled if you figure it out.


My main thing with this tune is that it FEELS like a bass player's song, you know? I look at bass as a necessary evil that I hate messing with...which is why most of my recordings have the root being played with a shortneck fender "bronco" bass, hahahaaa... I just don't think I can do it justice, so I don't want to even screw with it.
 
Also, if anybody takes a crack at it, it would be helpful if you could record the part of the drum count with your bass track so I can line it up without having to earball it. The best bass lines I've ever had sent to me are often just slightly ahead of the beat for some reason, and I don't want to mess up your timing by just lining it up with a grid.

That's a nice song Chris. Like a Harry Chapin tune. (Cats In The Cradle) if you didn't know. Very nice sound. You are doing your friend a good favor.

Thanks for listening dodge and rob. I haven't gotten any tracks yet, but I updated the link up top after working a little on the drums. They still need more work, but they're closer.

The mix will sound weird, because I've tried to leave some room for the bass....

Fucking sweet. I hope I end up using your track; we've never collab'd on anything. Mostly because my tunes are too hardcore for you, lol.
 
I'm really digging this song. Your friend has a great voice and a nice start to to a great song. And guitar is my primary instrument but, I suck at it. So playing bass on this song is out of the question because I would suck even more at that. However, I do play a mean Jaw Harp (or Jews Harp). :D

My bass player used to play the hell out of one of those live. Yes, you apparently CAN "play the hell out of" one. :D

If I get more than 1 track, I'll pick one, yeah. The link in my first post is downloadable. If you've got a PC, just right click and "save target as." If you've got a Mac, do whatever Mac users do to download things, lol. Thanks for listening.













By the way, the song needs bass and that's why I posted this, but if anybody wants to track something else to be used in the tune, please do that.
 
My attempts so far are sucking, but I'll hopefully have something for you this afternoon.
 
Yeah me too... Something about the bass sounds wrong. I can't find a good rhythm or tune. If I get something at all I'll let you know.
