Hello everyone,

I just inherited a pair of old (circa 1974 I think) AKG D 224Es from a friend of mine who works at NASA. I plugged them in and they sound rather unique...something about these particular mics having two separate diaphragms for low and high end. I don't know much about them at all really. Does anyone here use any of these old dynamic mics? They kinda look like a thicker C 451 & they have those old stand adaptors which work very well with my C414B-ULS too. BTW, those AKG SA 18/3 stand adaptors cost $250 these days (from what I heard from a friend of mine at Sweetwater). Funny to think that I just bought a used (but in perfect condition) SA 18/3 for $32 on Fleabay....$250 just seemed a little high to me for a mic clip! :)

224's can be interesting for guitars and the occassional snare drum... or so I've found over the years... as you mentioned, an interesting texture, nothing I'd really make a habit out of, but YMMV.
