Anybody know how to 'Cal-breaks' on an XT?

Anybody know how to 'Cal-brakes' on an XT?

Actually it's a fostex cx-8 which I believe is the same transport. I'm getting slow rewind near the front of the tape in un-threaded mode, and the 'cal-brc' error- which I find is not in the 140+ page manual.
Un frikin' believable.

Strange!

The few times "Cal-Brc" appeared on my XT was when I pressed 1 of the "locate" switches and then pressed "play" b-4 unit reached it's "locate" point which is not recommended. I'll check my manual
& see if I can find some info you can use.

You need to calibrate the unit's braking procedure.... this occurs occasionally....

It's been so long, I had to run the old cleaning video to see which way to spin the head..
