Hello!!! I am (hopefully!!) about to "build" my first rack system. My band is starting to "take off" (we're now starting to play gigs...yippee!! :)) and my poor little Fender 25 watt sounds great, I just don't have a good distortion and I need a bigger amp anyways. I have decided on a rack setup because most of the places I'll be playing will be rather small places, or at least not big enough for a tube halfstack. I was wondering if anyone could comment on the POD Pro, or, especially, the two Oberheim models above, the GM-1000 or GM-400. Thanks to all in advance!!!

I have a pod pro...I just got it about 2 months ago, I'm using it for recording and it is AWESOME. My live rig was a marshall valvedstate half stack and I plan on using the pod instead. Sorry, but the power amp to run the pod to my cab hasn't shown up yet, so I can't completely comment on the live sound, but I will tell you this:

If you saw weezer on sat night live a few weeks ago, you might have noticed their amps or lack thereof. All pod pros, and thought the sounded pretty damn good. Another decent one is the Sansamp PSA-1. It even sounded great going through my marshall, but it's drawback is that it doesn't have diff speaker cabinet selections.

hope this helps.

I also have a POD pro. Using it live's ok; I also have the floorboard. I use this rack for recording though. The distortion(s) you can obtain through the POD aren't excellent in my opinion; adequate though. You may need to buy external stomp boxes, rack unit's for effects.

The POD is fantastic for the money and I don't want to seem as though I am putting it down, but don't expect state of the art effects, that's not what it's for.

Sounds awesome, guys thanks for your comments. I would definitely be getting (later, of course) another effects processor. Thanks for your comments!! Anyone else?
