This is not any kind of attack on waldo, who is a great guy. My beef is with nowhereradio as any other site that I visit on the net.

A majority of the guys on this board put their songs on nowhereradio and I cant even listen to the songs.

I am on a T1 connection where I have seen download speeds of 450k/ second yet everytime I try to stream from nowhereradio its always skipping and stuttering, making me just quit in frustration.

I find this annoying and tiring, and upsetting that I cant listen to music on nowhereradio.

How do you guys solve this problem?

off topic: I just realized that when people say that a piece of music is not their cup of tea, they are not dissing the whole genre, they are just saying that the particular song did not have an identifiable wildcard. Wildcards encompass all genres and have no respect for genre.

eg, ,I am not a fan of country music, but Phil Vassar's "this is God" is a wildcard song and its just beautiful.

I don't stream...I download. If the artist doesn't enable downloads then I don't bother. No expert here but I imagine streaming takes a lot of bandwidth.

I dont dowload because I will have to delete 98% of the songs I hear and I dont want to have to download a whole song when I can usually tell in the first minute if its a wildcard song or not.

Alot of it is a result of traffic. Streaming 'does' take alot of bandwidth, and if you check the forums, I've addressed the issue more than a few times, as to 'how' it will be solved.

All I can say, is look, I'm working on it. If I was made of money, the problem would have gone away long ago. But I'm not.

Whoa!I hope I get to be your wildcard...ah,wait...on second thought...If your not gonna listen to the whole thing than don't bother with my stuff.I take offense to that comment, buddy. You must have some superhuman ability to tell good music from bad.But I digress...this is a mixing clinic , not a I don't like your song cuz it's not my style clinic.Where do you get off making a statement like that.Every Newbie on the board is probobly saying ,"I better write a great intro or CyanJ won't listen to my song".Get real dude...

I understand your gripe about the streaming at NoWhere, but I actually like it cuz it weeds out the people like you.Why don't you go to MP3.com or back to the cave so you won't have to complain about downloading a "bad song".

....and dammit,Jim!You just posted another comment and totally saved yourself from an ass reamming.I'm still miffed at the wildcard statement. How do you know if the rest of the song isn't a gem?Maybe just a lousy recording by an amature or newbie...Are you just mad at the stream?Or is there just to much music comming in as of late?I can say that I've been selective in the past month cuz of time I don't have but.I would never say I'm only out for the wildcard.Remember: Mixing Clinic...not listen to my cool song clinic,or,I made a song on my casio and it's groovey clinic,or,I am a great musician so you should fear me clinic,or,whatever...

I didn't expect this from you,I am shocked and dismayed.

I can post songs there for free and download them in a few minutes-whats to complain about? Deleting a song I don't want to keep takes what? 5 seconds?

"It's not the show. It's the exciting moment of waiting for the star to come up on stage which makes me wet all over my pants..."

And that pleasure is what download from NWR all about... :D

Problem:...I have trouble streaming from NoWhereRadio...

Solution: Download MP3s and relax man... :D

I know what he's saying. I usually go for the lo fi version and if it catches me I'll d/l it and give it a better listen.

I give the stream a try and if it buffers I download it.With your T1 connection it's not a hassle to download and then delete.

Dude, dont get yourself in a frenzy over nothing.

I dont know if my ability to classify good music from bad can be classified as superhuman, but I do know that I have a record company's mindset when I am listening to music on this board. ie, I am looking for a song that has a wildcard because its the one that will sell millions of copies. Unfortunately, the public wants to hear a wildcard in the first minute or its time to move on.

First of all, there is just too much music to spend 3-5 minutes per song and getting frustrated when I dont hear wildcards.

Secondly, the only person whose music I'll listen to for more than a minute waiting for a wildcard is MOZART and that's because he proved himself and you KNOW that he'll have a wildcard eventually. I think sluice is one of the best songwriters I've ever listened to, but I wont even give him more than a minute to produce a wildcard(luckily, he usually has a wildcard in the first minute) I mean, where does one draw the line in waiting for a wildcard? 10 minutes? 15 minutes? 60 minutes? EVERYBODY has a time limit for a wildcard.

And ,oh, I am never like "I dont like your song cuz its not my style" The wildcard does not care about style. The wildcard transcends all styles, and dude, its not about intros. You can have the stupidest intro in the world, as long as it conforms to the rules and leads to a wildcard.

I actually think that Dragon needs to make a "wildcard" forum. SImply because "mixing clinic" makes people focus too much on the gear and the sound and not enough on the MUSIC. You can record a song with all radioshack equipment and if it is a wildcard song, it will bless people's hearts.

Off topic: If anyone is wanting to get that chemical reaction of the wildcard, I recommend robert8's no_reply.mp3. Very ,Very good song.

Oh, and anything by sluice will pass, but my favorites for wildcards are Fold, hatepill, rhythms, covenant, why are you still here and mixmkrs destinations with vocals.

If you base what's good on what sells, or what is 'popular', then I hate to say it, but you are a very, very, shallow person.

-Edit-

Or you are under 20...

You use the term "wildcard" too much.LOL....the correct musical term is "hook"!

How did you infer that waldo?

I dont base what is good on what sells.

If its good, then it sells.

I know that we can argue that some crap songs sell, but thats not the point.

"What is good sells"

Kramer,

as I've said, a wildcard does not have to be a hook. It can appear in another part of a song that is not the hook.

Morever, not all hooks are wildcards. only a small percentage of hooks are wildcards.

Please, if you want to hear a good wildcard(also happens to be the hook) please please please listen to phil vassar's "this is God"

Its just so WOW

From that statement, you directly stated that this is your mindset. No inference required.

What that statement means is that

if you present a wildcard song and a non wildcard song to the public, given the same amount of push from the record company, the wildcard song is the one that will become a runaway smash hit and get all the radio airplay.

What you said that I said is that
If a song sells millions of copies then it must be a wildcard song. No. Thats not what I am saying. Contradictions to that appear everyday. Madonna is one of them.

First of all, there is just too much music to spend 3-5 minutes per song and getting frustrated when I dont hear wildcards.

You contradict yourself more than once.

I know how the current industry works. Trust me.

You have stated, 'unless it's a wildcard, and I need to hear that it's a wildcard in the first few seconds, then it's not worth my time to listen to, and it's crap'

Your definition of wildcard is 'something that is extremely popular in the major market, and sells lots of copies'.

Madonna, a contradiction to that? Hardly, in fact, it's concrete evidence of what you state.

Bringing up radio airplay is a bahahaha at this. It doesn't need to be anything to get on the air, you just have to pay the network enough for them to play it.

I'm sorry man, but your mindset is very anti indie, and myself, as an artist, take great offense to this mindset.

Art is a form of expression. Squelching expression due to public opinion and hard numbers is just shy of disgusting.

P.S., take your 'wildcards' and shove them up your ***, I want real music from the heart, not commercially sculpted bull***.

;)
