I just watched the film "I am trying to break your heart" by Sam Jones. A film about Wilco and the writing, recording, mixing, and manufacturing of their newest CD. It is incredible!!! comes out for sale on April 1st. Has anyone seen it yet? I preordered it so i got it early. it is fucking rad!!! Jeff Tweedy and Wilco are phenomenal musicians and songwriters!!! anyone agree? disagree?

Like 'em a lot. Movie makes Tweedy look like a complete arrogant dickhead, though.

What's coming out 4/1? DVD of the movie, or the new CD? The movie's about the making of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, which has been out for a year now, but I understand a new CD is on the way.

I'm REALLY interested in the new CD, not so much as a fan (though I am), but to see whether the absence of Jay Bennett makes a difference. I thought the soundscape mayhem on YHF came mostly from him, AND I thought that was the coolest thing about that CD.

I was also disappointed in the movie because they didn't show the studio stuff, except for mixdown. But I'd like to get the DVD - they promised a lot of live concert footage in the bonus tracks...

yeah there is a ton of footage of them playing. along with some of jeff's acoustic stuff. just him and his old guitar! pretty good shit! I thought that Jay bennett looked like a total asshole in the movie. the way he was just picking a fight constantly about stuff that was very obscure. and Jeff sometimes didnt even know what the problem was when they were kind of on opposite sides in a disagreement. anyway, I DO think that Jay added A LOT to the whole vibe but I think they will be fine without him. Jeff IS the man behind the lyrics and as we all know, they are for one reason or another the way the song is defined in most cases. anyway, the DVD comes out on the 1st of april. check it out.

Jeff: A circle can only have one center.

Any band member with balls: FUCK YOU, YOU ARROGANT FUCKING MEGALOMANIAC!!!

Just my little opinion...

true, but come on, give the guy some credit. he's the heart of the band. without HIM as the singer the band is. . . . any other experimental unsigned band out there that is half decent with a shitty singer.

BTW, kinda nice how this conversation is bringing our post counts up, huh? Not that I would ever post just to bring my count up. Really :D

yeah I agree, anyway, some great fuckin music from those guys!

yeah totally into U.T. actually jay Farrar of "son volt" fame formed that group along with Jay and then decided to leave and Jay and the drummer and bass player formed wilco and then came along Jay bennet. i have been following them for some time. you should check out jay Farrar's solo album (sebastopol). came out a year or 2 ago. pretty cool stuff. more experimental with sounds and shit, kinda like wilco with a much different vocal approach.

I just saw jay farrar here in missouri. Absoutly great show. Just him and a guy playing really cool lap and lead guitar. Betweeb Sunvolt, UT, and now wilco, it was interesting to see such a diverse crowd there

it's an awesome movie...i'm getting next week when it comes out....

I'll be getting it too. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot was probably the best cd released last year. Something about it reaks of "classic" to my ears.

Have you seen The Man In The Sand? That's the movie about the whole Mermaid Avenue thing.

i've seen it. a little more billy bragg and a little less wilco than i was hoping for, but cool none the less

I'm a huge Billy Bragg fan so that movie was heaven for me. Wilco are great too.

Orange...Im with you...Jay is the way. There are few with a voice such as he. And his lyrics, oh my, "..... takes you down". You know what I mean. There is a depth in Jays music that is unmatched.

Only old Tupers know.

oh, i agree that Jay Farrar is by far a GREAT songwriter, but I have also heard some Jeff TWeedy lyrics that make my soul shiver.
